Course Options

The Department offers the followings options at HND level:

  • Farm Power and Machinery
  • Soil and Water Engineering
  • Post Harvest Technology

1. Farm Power and Machinery
The option is designed to produce Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology graduates capable of applying engineering knowledge and skill in the design, fabrication, operation, servicing, repair and maintenance of all equipment used for production, processing and storage of  agricultural products. The students are expected to maintain, repair and manage farm machinery such as tractors, ploughs, harrows, planters, harvesters, sprayers, post harvest machines, etc. Students of this option are also trained in machine design, farm electrification and instrumentation.

2. Soil and Water Engineering
Students of Soil and Water Engineering are trained in development and design of  irrigation system for crop production such as drip, sprinkler and surface irrigation. Research and training areas include water resources development, land reclamation, rainwater harvesting and soil and water conservation. Students  of this option are also expected to be able to develop agricultural systems that can mitigate climate change and conserve the environment.

3. Post Harvest Technology
This option focusses on training students in sorting, packaging, temperature management, transporting, and temporary storing of biological materials. The students are also trained in using post harvest technology in both primary and secondary processing of agricultural products. Graduates of this option are also expected to be able to design and fabricate post harvest machines such as maize sheller, groundnut decorticator, oil palm mill, cassava processing machines, etc
